In 2018 Northumberland CCG consulted on the closure of a small number of community beds at Rothbury Community Hospital (part of Northumbria Healthcare NHS FT) following a period of under-utilisation and suspension of service. The CCG decided to formally close the beds post-consultation but the decision was referred to SoS. On IRP advice, SoS requested that Northumberland CCG undertake further work on the services at Rothbury (including consideration of reopening the beds). The Northern England Clinical Senate has been asked to carry on an independent review of the outcomes of patients from the Rothbury area who went to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Hospital during this period and review the revised models of care for this facility.
