NW Clinical Senate – Liverpool University Hospitals NHS FT: Integrated Business Case (breast, general surgery, nephrology, urology and vascular services) (2022)

In 2019, Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT) was formed following the merger of Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (AUHFT) and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospitals NHS Trust (RLBUHT). A number of services have already been through significant service transformation as part of this strategic and organisational approach, notably Stroke Services which the NW Clinical Senate was pleased to be invited to review for NSE/I Stage 2 clinical assurance in April 2021. The transformational work for the services in this most recent piece of work was aligned to the opening of the new Royal Liverpool Hospital (RLH) in September 2022 to avoid multiple moves and thus minimise disruption to both patients and staff. The aim of this review was to undertake a “light touch” independent clinical review, in line with the NHS England Stage 2 assurance process, of the proposed future models of care for delivery of the following services by LUHFT:

  • Breast
  • General Surgery
  • Nephrology
  • Urology
  • Vascular
